I think I can see why the developers chose to use this mechanic - aside from the nice immersion in keeping with Chinese culture it keeps you exactly from this approach of building the same types of cities in every map and probably leads to more organic looking cities that add some extra difficulty to manage, but it is annoying to be forced in to creating less efficient cities than you should be able to, if Feng Shui is important to you. Coming from Pharaoh where I usually build very efficient concentric circle style layouts this is hard. Even when you can place it, it might not be exactly where is most efficient or neatest. There are times when it is almost impossible to place a building near where you want it (where you need it even) and maintain perfect Feng Shui. This is fun, but sadly I think inevitably leads to badly planned and inefficient cities. You have to place buildings such that they remain in harmony with the surrounding environment. One of the more interesting mechanics that’s introduced in Emperor is the concept of ‘Feng Shui’. But the more i'm playing it in some ways I feel it’s a bit of a step back and i’d like to compare the two games and know what other people think because I feel I might be missing some things about this game. It’s definitely a beautiful game and in many ways an upgrade compared with Pharaoh. I really enjoyed the early levels of Emperor. I’ve been a big fan playing Pharaoh again after a number of years and on the back of that recently picked up Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, a game which I’d never played.
